Fashion Hacks to Spice Up Your Current Wardrobe

Don’t we all wish we could wake up and have the perfect outfit every morning? Sometimes it feels like you have to shop every weekend to keep your wardrobe interesting. Often, we just get used to looking at the same clothes and accessories in our closets and forget what’s really there. Here are some tips for spicing things up without having to invest a ton of money or time shopping.

Go Through Your Closet

While this can seem like a daunting task, it’s the best place to start. Going through each and every item in your closet will definitely re-introduce you to items you forgot you had. Go through your closet, drawers, wherever you keep your jewelry, the coat closet and anywhere else you’re hiding parts of your ensemble. This is also a good chance to get rid of items you don’t want anymore. Getting rid of things that don’t fit right or don’t make you feel amazing when you put them on will clear up room for new items and make what stays in your closet more visible. It’s amazing what tidying up and seeing everything you have can do for your creativity. Look at each item and decide whether or not you love it. Don’t love it? Donate it, hand it down to someone, or even re-purpose it somehow.

Don’t Underestimate the Power of Accessories

If you haven’t experienced the amazing difference accessories can make in your wardrobe, give it a try. Adding different jewelry, a scarf or a cardigan to the same old outfit can give it new life. Remember this one when you’re out shopping as well. Maybe you have some great staples in your closet and you can get a chunky necklace or big earrings to make outfits that look even more put together. This can make all the difference on those days when nothing seems to fit right in the dressing room.

SHOES.

Shoes can make or break an outfit. Seriously. Adding a colored shoe to a neutral outfit can take your outfit from mediocre to excellent. Don’t be afraid to keep a mix of shoes in your closet. Basics that will blend in and put focus on other parts of your outfit, and wild shoes that will really pop. Invest in great shoes and you’ll always have something lovely to wear!

Have A Friend Go Through Your Wardrobe

Have you ever been working on a project for so long that your eyes are going crossed and you’re stuck on an issue for hours. You decide to ask a friend to look at it and they come up with a solution instantly? Sometimes all it takes is a fresh pair of eyes! Ask a friend with great fashion sense to come over and look through your closet. Promise to try on any outfit they put together and see what happens! They’ll definitely try something you haven’t. If you ever had a college roommate that swapped clothes with you on occasion, you’ve seen this first hand. Bonus: they might put together something that they happen to have the perfect accent for and let you borrow it. Score!

Have Fun with It

Sometimes, all it takes to make things more interesting is to try things you haven’t before. The best outfits are often born out of taking a few items you’ve never worn together and seeing how they look. Play with putting multiple patterns together, tucking a more casual shirt into a pencil skirt, or put different shades of the same color together and see how it looks! You’ll probably end up putting some things together that you wish you never saw yourself in. But, you’ll definitely come up with some new ideas that you didn’t know were possible with what was already in your closet!
